How do we use the precept ?
The budgets for 2010/ 2011 have been agreed in principal by the Parish Council.
We need to have a reserve for the unknown and emergencies, for example in 2009 we purchased grit bins for May Street and Little Chishill in anticipation of a bad winter. ( A wise move)
Therefore all possible expenditure is not clear at the moment.
Due to cut backs we are finding it increasing difficult to acquire funds from the District Council (not unique to Cambridgeshire) with this in mind we need to consider funding important projects from the precept.
Example: It took over 1 year to get the 30 mph sign moved to safeguard the entrance to the new houses in Hayden Road due to lack of funds from District Council.
Grants to local clubs and societies are given only on confirmation that Government Grants and self fund raising has been pursued.
All our Parish Councillors offer their services free of charge, their total expenses for 2009 was only £ 74.55

Audit and Bank charges 2.0%
Maintenance, buildings, signage and lighting 6.0%
Charities and small donations 1.5%
Insurance and ROSPA safety inspections 6.5%
Church grounds and bells maintenance 3.7%
Playing Fields and Pavilion 9.4%
Village Hall 12.0%
Commutation, door drops, news letters and website 3.0%
Playground and Youth Group 7.0%
Roadside and open ground grass cutting and tree maintenance 8.3%
Around 4 % granted by District Council.
Waste Collection 1.0%
Provision for Elections 2.7%

The Precept for 2010 / 2011 has now been set and submitted. Last year's Precept was £21,600 this year it will raise by 3% or £648 to £22,248.
