The main activities of Great and Chishill Parish Council include:
A Parish Council is the first tier of local government, being a non-political corporate, elected body which represents the interests of the community. Councillors are volunteers who are supported in the decision-making process by a Clerk / Proper Officer. Great and Little Chishill Parish Council have a CiLCA qualified clerk.
Below is a selection of some of what we undertake on behalf of our Parishioners. This list is not exhaustive, but gives an insight into what we do.
Liaison with the local police and Neighbourhood Watch on crime, security and traffic issues.
Scrutiny and comment on planning applications within the parish, these are submitted to the local planning authority, Cambridge District Council.
Initiation of capital projects to improve the environment, appearance and amenities within the village such as benches, play equipment, lighting/floodlighting, conservation and restoration work.
Maintenance, repairs and improvements to parish facilities including recreational areas, public spaces and buildings.
Liaison with other local authorities on the maintenance, repair and improvement of highways, drainage, footpaths, cycleways, public transport, street cleaning, conservation matters including trees and listed buildings and environmental issues such as waste recycling
Support of local arts, sports, youth groups and societies, including grants where appropriate.
Investigation and resolution of local problems and complaints from the community.
Annual publication of its plans and policies in a Village plan following comment and consultation within the community.
Setting the annual Precept (local rate) to cover the Council's running costs including expenditure on staff, adminstration, buildings, public lighting, amenity areas, grants and capital projects. Production and submission of the annual accounts for audit.
